After a long and hard contemplation, I decided to do it "Grassroots" style. For me, nothing replaces good ole trial and error, hit or miss builds. After all, our builds are supposed to be timeless. But then again, what do I know...
Yesterday while I was browsing through Facebook, I came across a build by BRP (Birth Racing Project) of Japan. They built a J's Racing Honda FIT GE as their entry for the 2011 Super Taikyu Race. The Super Taikyu is a Time Attack and Endurance race combined held every year in Japan but it does not get much media mileage like Super GT but it showcases Production cars with stock engines with only a few modifications. I browsed thru their blogsite which was written in Japanese so I relied on my auto translator and it was still hard to understand.
I decided to share this here, because I was so amazed that they were able to convert the stock L15 Series engine to race spec. Something that our local Honda Service advisors and well known aftermarket tuners that I spoke with said that it cant be done and it was a waste of time. Well, apparently, it can and it is done.
Let the fun begin...
First the Build...
J's Racing Hyper ECU was used programmed to maximize engine performance.
Heat resistant paint was coated on the Engine and Brake Calipers to lessen heat down to 15%.
FIA Certified Fuel Cells with 12 Gallons (45 Liters Approx) capacity were installed. For safety and balance it was installed at the center of the GE.
Next is engine development. Necessary reburring and torque assembly balancing was done. No exact figures was posted.
A CUSCO LSD and a Six-Speed Transmission was installed also coated with Heat Resistant paint. Gear Ratio was tuned as well but again no exact figures were available.
Roll Cages and Welded Gussets were installed for added Safety and Rigidness to maximize maneuverability and handling.
Additional Spot Welds on the Roof and the Frame
Engine Bench Test. Power Preferences, Wiring, Start- Brake Check, ECU and Cooling paint are a GO.
Engine Head Replaced with J's Racing Head Cover.
A new Oil Pan Baffle Plate was installed to prevent Blown Engines.
It took them 4 months to get it ready for the initial shakedown.
Now for the shakedown, they experienced electrical problems in the beggining but was easily remedied. The ECU needed a bit of tweaking. Suspension settings were also adjusted.
They also had a a Photo shoot of the finished BAD ASS GE.
and now, for your automotive eye candy addiction... The J's Racing FIT Project Car of BRP for the 2011 Super Taikyu Race...
At home on the Race Track...
This build is truly inspiring. Taking time on your build can yield the best results. It came at a time when I was losing interest on my beloved GE, but not anymore. Be patient, all naysayers, haters or critics are there to encourage you even if in their mind they think they are better than you and your build. Don't conform to the norm and strive to be groundbreaking...
DON'T FORGET TO HAVE FUN ON YOUR BUILD, it's the reason why we do what we do anyway right???
Until the next "Earth Shattering" build Addiks!!!
