V8 Supercars LIVE in the Philippines!!!

Yesterday afternoon, I was having an almost weekly coffee session with my friend Atty. Rom in Figaro, he asked if I heard that there is going to be a an all V8 Race to be held here in the Philippines soon. My initial reaction was,"who the hell would race V8s here???" Lets face it, there are more owners of Diecast Models of V8 cars here than those who really actually own one and let alone race it. Rom added that he thinks that its the one being held in Australia. But also asked where could they find the venue, I thought Clark International Speedway could manage that. It would be awesome though if V8 Supercars would include our Motorsports hungry nation in their calendar but local V8 races is a bit far fetched.

Just moments ago while checking my emails, I suddenly found myself typing V8 Races on google and one of the top results, to my delight, was in one statement "PSC Supports V8 Supercars Event." Cue in the fireworks....

A little backgrounder, V8 Supercars, arguably the biggest motorsports event next to F1 and NASCAR.  This year, V8 Monsters Manufacturers Holden and Ford are the weapons of choice for the different racing teams participating, particularly the Holden Commodore VE2 and the Ford Falcon FG.  Apparently a household name to our friends down under, V8 Supercars fall under the FIA (Federation Internationale de I’Automobile) regulations.

According to an article by the Philippine Daily Inquirer website, the PSC (Philippine Sports Commission) will be assisting Toleman Motorsport Management in their intentions to bring the action here by 2013. It said that they want the Philippines to be their central hub of in Asia. In addition to that, they would be on the look out for potential Filipino Drivers who can compete at this level of racing.

I think this is good news not only to Motorsports Enthusiasts but also to our country as well. The added revenue to be generated during these events will be like a supercharged V8 Engine strapped on tour Kalesa economy. Talk about an Economic Engine Swap.

Hopefully, our local politics won't get in the way this time. If not from the Branches of Government, it may come from our local motorsports governing bodies. If they do, it will only impede the progress of Philippine motorsports like with the other sporting disciplines that has suffered from their black hand.

Here's keeping my fingers crossed.... F1 can't be far behind if this becomes a reality....

Until then, keep on Functioning  FAddicts!!!
